The woman who is your best
friend, your neighbor, your sister or your mother may be a woman who surrendered
her child to adoption and you simply may not be aware that that is the case.
This information may be just what she is looking for. With that in mind, I
would ask that you forward this email to as many people as you can. It is our
hope that prior to January 1, 2005 we will be able to notify as many birth
mothers and birth fathers who gave birth in New Hampshire and surrendered
their child to adoption.
On January 1, 2005 New Hampshire
born adult adoptees will finally be equal with other New Hampshire adults!
Why? Because for the first time they will be able to obtain a copy of their
original birth certificates! The birth parents of these adopted adults will now
have the opportunity to disclose to the adult adoptee whether they wish to be
contacted or not by use of the Contact Preference Form (CPF) referred to in the
attachment.
Please forward this information to everyone you know, and to every appropriate
web site and listserv you know of. Why? Beginning on
Monday, January 3, 2005 the New Hampshire Office
of Vital Records will begin issuing copies of original birth certificates to
hundreds of New Hampshire-born adopted adults. The mothers and/or fathers of
those adopted adults who may NOT want contact must request (or download), fill
out, and return their CPF PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 2005 to insure that they will not
be contacted. For those mothers and/or fathers who DO desire contact,
completing the CPF will provide updated contact information to the adult
adoptee.
It is important that we notify as many of those mothers and fathers as possible
know that this form is available to them. PLEASE NOTE that the CPF will
not be available on the
New Hampshire Office of Vital Records web page until DECEMBER 1, 2004. If you
are interested in completing a CPF you should note this date on your calendar.
There is also a celebration planned in
Concord, New Hampshire for January 2, 2005.
