ASCME
Adoption Search Consultants of Maine
Finally a petition to Congress asking that adoptees should be allowed to have
their original BIRTH CERTIFICATES
ASCME is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to informing, educating and supporting those touched by adoption. Adoption Search Consultants of Maine was formed over 20 years ago by Mina Bicknell, birth mother, and a group of former members of Orphan Voyage. Mina's hard work and commitment inspired the organization for many years. After her death in 1993 ASCME was changed to Mina Bicknell Adoption Resource Center as a tribute to Mina. At that time the members of MBARC had a vision of expanding MBARC's role into a much larger organization which included many other types of resources that would be available to the triad. A valiant attempt was made but in 1999 the organization collapsed leaving Helen Slocum and Peter Jensen as sole administration for MBARC. The decision to bring back Mina's original name ASCME better reflects what this small organization does which is to support and help guide triad members who are preparing or who are already searching. Helen and Peter remain committed to ASCME thanks in part to Mina's inspiration.
Wanda and Helen reunited on June7, 1997 after 31 years.
